The Preview Record option in the Step Builder lets you see what a record on that step will look like—without actually creating one. It’s a quick way to validate your field setup and ensure the intended experience for end users.
When to Use Preview Record:
- Check field order – Ensure fields appear in the correct sequence.
- Review page layout – Verify how sections and fields are arranged.
- Validate conditions – Confirm that step, subsection, and field conditions work as expected.
- View simple calculations and text concatenations – If a calculation’s inputs are on the same page, you can enter values in the preview to check results.
What You Cannot Test in Preview Record:
- Path routing – There’s no submit button in previews, so path logic can't be tested.
- E-Signatures – E-Signature fields won’t appear because they require authentication.
- Automated Evidence Collection – You can't create or view Evidence Automations.
- Linked Workflow Sections & Relationship Reports – These require data from other workflows and won’t appear.
- Complex calculations and concatenations – Default input values and cross-workflow calculations won’t process.
- Date calculations – Date-based formulas won’t display.
- Linked Record Count fields – These rely on data from other workflows and won’t process.
- Right-side panel features – Record History, Comments, and Record-Level Access Controls won’t be available.
- Record title – These won’t display in previews since no real record is created.
